Born and raised in Eugene, Paul knows House District 8 and that its families are worth fighting for.
Before he began his career in public service, Paul worked as a carpentry apprentice, working his way up to becoming a journeyman in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
Paul has worked for various contractors in Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska as a carpenter, foreman and project superintendent. Paul is a retired representative for the Pacific Northwest Carpenters – part of the United Brot​herhood of Carpenters. He also served on the Siuslaw National Forest Resource Advisory Committee prior to being elected to the House of Representatives.
Paul attended Lane Community College and the University of Oregon. And has also received a certificate from the University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center and has had professional training in labor-management relations.
Paul Holvey has represented District 8 since 2004, and currently serves as Speaker Pro Tempore
During his tenure in the House, he has earned a reputation for standing up for the needs of working Oregonians. As a Democrat, Paul has also championed legislation on solar and energy storage technology, protections for domestic violence victims, consumer protections, raising the minimum wage, restricting field burning, and is recognized as a leader in environmental protections and climate change issues. Paul and his wife Terrie live in South Eugene and are kept busy with their Yorkshire Terriers, Sunny and Trigger. In his spare time he enjoys gardening, watching the Ducks, and enjoying Oregon's great outdoors.
